Yarn Along
Joining Ginny for Yarn Along this week. On the needles is a candy cane striped sock. I'm hoping to knit a pair for each of the boys for Christmas. My purpose is as an extra layer of warmth inside their boots. I know that they will use them to skate around the house, possible colliding into furniture and walls.
I am currently reading Maragret Atwood's latest novel The Year of the Flood. http://yearoftheflood.com/ca/ To those who may not know her work, Atwood is kind of the rock star of Canadian lit. I was first introduced to her in university and she is brilliant. Having said that, this book was on my nightstand for almost a year before I picked it up. Having finally done so, I regret not reading it earlier. I am really enjoying it. Love her word play and biting humour. I highly recommend her books if you were looking for an introduction to Canadian lit. Now I'm off to see what others are knitting and reading this week.

I LOVE Margaret Atwood.
ReplyDeleteI practically lived on "The Handmaid's Tale" in Senior year of High School and Freshman year of College.
Cute sock too!
cute socks! ...I've started a pair of socks for daddy - for christmas hopefully! :D but I'm not sure I'll have enough time to finish...I'm slow in this kind of things... :)
ReplyDeleteLove those socks! Do you mind posting the pattern link (if it's on ravelry or something)? At least a couple of my kids would love those!
ReplyDeleteGosh haven't read Margaret Atwood in years...but remember her well growing up in Canada.
ReplyDeleteSkating in the house is the best...my boys and Chad still do it! Cute socks!!
i am excited to check out the latest atwood now... i love "bluebeard's egg" and "the handmaid's tale" as well. hopefully they have it at our library in town. i'm going there today! am in need of a good book... the candy cane socks look so cute.
ReplyDeletelove the socks. Red and white is a favorite colorway to me!!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Margaret Atwood, but then again I've been changing diapers a Looooong time and have lost most contact with interesting non-child literature! I'll have to look her up, I love this yarn along for the great book recommendations!
ReplyDeleteI love the stripes, great yarn too!
You know, I've never read any Margaret Atwood. Sad really, I know. But it's like you said, she's the rockstar of Canadian lit and I tend to be an "against the grain" sort of person and so haven't read her on principle. :) However , when I worked at Chapter's and customers would come in looking for M.A. books, I'd always ask for a recommendation. Perhaps it's time I pick of one of her works. I've been told more than once she's brilliant. And am I a huge reader...so perhaps it's time.
ReplyDeleteOh, and love the socks. Floor skating is so much fun. xo
Candy Cane socks - so cute!
ReplyDeleteHer name sounds vaguely familiar. What type of books does she write? Novels? I love finding new authors I enjoy. What a fun idea about the candy cane socks. My boys LOVE handmade socks. My grandmother made some little slippers w/ bells on them. Needles to say, I had to ban them for a while, because the boys were running around like crazy and it was getting really loud.
ReplyDeleteThe socks look great! Now I have another book/author on my reading list--thanks:)
ReplyDeleteYou know I have actually never read anything by Margaret Atwood and here now I feel a bit ashamed to say so while being a Canadian *grin*. Can't wait to see your finished socks. Love the stripes!
ReplyDeleteCandy cane socks, love it! I knit up a pair several yrs ago and added bells. I had forgotten all about them. I think I'll dig them out tonight. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi! New here, via your comment at beauty that moves. I love Margret Atwood novels. I recently read Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood. Really enjoyed both. I also re-read Surfacing (had to read it in college for philosophy class interesting to read it again 15 years later) Oh and I must know, what brand are the watercolors you posted? They are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post Tara. I am off the couch, but just barely... and not at all myself yet. I appreciate the well wishes! Blessings on the coming Holiday!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love that sock!
ReplyDeleteI'm just learning how to knit socks and it's so exciting to move beyond scarves! Really, how many scarves does one girl need?
