Where the Road Led Us

For the first time in five and a half years, Mike and I went away for a weekend.  By ourselves.  Yes, by ourselves.  Just the two of us.  have I mentioned it was just the two of us?  After talking about it for several years, we finally took the plunge and decided to actually go somewhere.  My parents (who really do deserve parents and grandparents of the year awards) watched the boys for the weekend and Friday morning, we were off.

It wasn't done without a certain amount of guilt -- guilt that the boys should have been there with us.  And a large part of me wanted them in the car with us.  But another part of me also really wanted us to have a weekend by ourselves.  The road led us to this view by 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

It was a weekend spent almost entirely outdoors exploring.  We listened to music and drank beer.  I read and took a lot of pictures.  We even saw a movie. ( Word of advice: do not order a latte in the movie theatre when the 15 year olds working there kept pawning off the job to each other and the girl who finally pushed the button had her eyes covered the entire time.  I knew it was a bad decision but I really wanted a latte.  Worst latte ever.  And let's not discuss how much I paid for it.)   I also had the best sleep ever Friday night.  this might be a slight exaggeration but I did sleep really well.

More about our weekend tomorrow.  Sleep well!

  2. Oh, this sounds like a most delightful time and very well deserved! I dream of doing something like that too with my husband. We haven't had a weekend alone together in nearly 10 years! I think it is great that you did that. I am sure it brought your children closer to their grandparents and it must have been renewing for your marraige. All the time outdoors sounds like the perfect way to spend your time together.

  3. You went away? What an absolute treat - how wonderful! Mr P and I have only been away for one night since the children came along.

I've tagged you for an award over at my blog, although some bloggers aren't keen on these so there's no obligation at all. I found it rather fun though!
