The Return of the Lazy Weekend Morning

Once we decided to increase the size of our family, early weekend mornings became part of the norm.  Young children being who they are, they weren't always relaxing, no, "relaxing" is not the right word because often they were, "lazy" is the word i'm looking for.  With having to keep up with the energy of little ones, they weren't always lazy mornings.  Lately, the lazy weekend morning has been making a bit of a return.  I am able to stumble downstairs, make coffee and then climb back in bed with coffee and book.  Not for long, just a few minutes.  Until hungry tummies call.

I'm not always alone. . .

and somehow that makes the morning that much better.

By the way, the book of the moment is The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.  I am really enjoying this book.  It is one of those books that you want to carry with you everywhere in the hope that you can sneak in a little bit of reading.

  1. I honestly can't remember the last time I laid in, but I do love how having children helped me to discover all the joys of early morning- the best things happen as the sun rises. Happy reading x

  2. Isn't it funny how weekend mornings change so much when the kids arrive. This Sunday we tried to sleep in...something we actually rarely do anymore but it had been a busy week. Well at 8:00 there's a piece of paper being slid under our door...rustling it back and forth...little fingers holding it...well not so little actually, almost a teenager....the paper simply said Good Morning in orange crayon.

The reason...a hungry tummy wondering when those Sunday morning pancakes were going to make their arrival. :-D

    Gotta love kids!!

  3. Mornings are always crazy around here but I wouldn't have it any other way. I loved that book!

  4. I read for awhile in bed Saturday morning. Yes, there was a long time where that did not happen, but its return now makes it all the better. Your time sounds like the perfect balance.

  5. Oh, that's a great book!! I really enjoyed- it has to be a few years ago that I read it. Right now I'm reading Gene Wilder's autobiography, Kiss Me Like a Stranger.

  6. I snuck away Sunday afternoon for a wee nap after reading a little bit from The Happiness Project. I hadn't done that in ages and it felt so good.

I listened to the Shadow of the Wind as an audiobook. What a hauntingly beautiful book.

  7. i need a book like that. the twilight series is just not working for me. at all..

  8. Now that my boys are sharing a room, they tend to talk to each peacefully (or sneak off to the living room together to watch TV) for at least a few extra minutes on weekend mornings, so we are getting a few more lazy mornings a month. It does so much for the soul!

Thanks for the book recommendation. I read a few paragraphs from your photograph and am intrigued.

  9. Tara, every weekend before kids I would always have my first cup of coffee and a book or magazine in bed. It was such a luxury that I sometimes miss.
One day (just this week!) I mentioned to Derrick how I would love to have my coffee in bed but it was a weekday so not possible. He promised me coffee in bed this weekend...ohhh what a treat!
