While camping, we managed to sneak in a little hike. Our initial suggestion was met by protests from the Little Guy that he doesn't like hiking. Funny how that once we actually start the hike, he is laughing and running along the path the entire time, almost as if he is enjoying it. Hmm.
I seem to always be trailing behind these three. Every so often, they would stop and wait for me to catch up.
It was around this time last year that I realized my existence in family photos was practically non-existent. Always behind the camera, I was never a part of the action. So last summer, I began to occasionally take a picture of myself as proof that I had also taken part in these adventures of ours. Combined with my non-photogenicity (is that a word? i don't think so but you know what I mean), it is not an easy task. So much to think about. Where to aim the camera. Smile or no smile. Look to the side and maybe upwards a bit to minimize the chin. Maybe try to look soulful, thoughtful. Anyways . . .
Proof that I was there, trailing behind, yelling words of caution to those ahead.
Sounds familiar -- both the child not wanting to hike (and then having a blast) and the fact that I'm almost non-existent in photos. I've handed the hubster the camera on occasion, but let's just say he needs to practice his composition skills. Actually, the boy usually takes pretty good pictures!
ReplyDeleteLol!I know how painful it is to try to manipulate a decent pic-you have nothing to worry about my friend you look beautiful!
ReplyDeletehaha! that's exactly what i've been trying to do lately, esp. since i'm pregnant. i always love seeing pictures of my mom pregnant with me. but, my dad was the photographer in the family, and he is the one who i remember at a certain age realizing - oh... dad was there - he was taking the pictures! you do very well at this soulful to the side and upward glance. i think i may have to try it. it doesn't matter if i take my picture or if i have michael take my picture, there are always more bad than good. but, we are our harshest critics. i always love seeing pictures of you. p.s. your little one looks like you. xo
ReplyDeleteLove your photos. Love the caterpillars and mushrooms... makes me ache for a good Canadian hike... xo Jen
ReplyDeleteTara, I love your self portrait!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics Tara! Love the moss and the caterpillars...always loved those as a kid.
ReplyDeleteI understand as the "in house photographer" myself...I've made more of an effort to hand the camera over at times and make myself "be" in some of the photos...it was starting to look like I never went anywhere!! ;-)
Hi Tara,
ReplyDeleteWell, you do quite well as a photographer. Those pics take you right into nature's wonders, and the family shot is very nice. I might have missed it, but what part of Canada were you guys hiking at?
Thanks for sharing memorable, fun times on your hiking adventure.
Isn't that where we mamas usually end up? You got some really nice shots, though.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Tara and I'm glad you enjoyed your camping/hiking trip. How does it feel to hike without someone stopping and reading at every info station?!? Su
ReplyDeleteha, i think you are like me, always in back because you stop to take such lovely photos. and also reluctant to appear on the other side of the lens - but i'm glad you did!
ReplyDeleteVery funny! Me too, I'm always far behind (short legs!!) with everyone running ahead. Beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteHello there Tara - nice to see you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a very pretty trail you found. Fantastic photos, and I especially love those cute little creatures in the hoodies ;)
I, too, get a lot of groaning when we head out for hikes. And those groans always turn into laughter as well. Those silly gooses!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of caterpillars. Caterpillars are cool.
And you did well capturing yourself on the hike! Very pretty!
Somehow I'd never seen this post! I was going through your blog to pin some pics to pinterest, and came across it. Happy to see YOU as well as all the other beauty. I have the same issue of not existing in our photos. Must improve:)
