Shaking it Up

Life has been busy lately.  In the quest to find balance, my presence in blogland has been, well, almost non-existent.   It was a combination of running out of time each day and a loss of my blogging mojo.  I have been wanting to come back.  Mulling it over.  I realized today that in order to get my mojo back, I was going to have to shake things up a bit.  sounds much more dramatic than it actually is.  In the past, I felt each post had to have a theme around which to navigate.  I blame it on taking too many English lit courses.  (On an aside, it's kind of funny that I misspelled the word "English" twice and "misspelled" once.)  No grand themes or posts which I feel I have to compose mentally in preparation -- unless I feel like it.  Just random shots of my day.  Let's start, shall we.

Love roasted beets. Love them.

Quinoa?  So far, not a huge fan but I am hoping that if I throw in some roasted beets, I may appreciate this power-house grain a little more.

Just snuck a forkful.  Pretty tasty.

  1. I'd missed you! What's funny is I've been on an unintended blog break of sorts as well. Too much travel and Nana in the hospital I guess. I need to try roasting beets. Canned ones kept me at the dinner table crying as a girl because I couldn't finish them. However, life involves growth. . . so perhaps I've grown into them, especially if they're roasted and in a salad like the one above.

  2. Pretty pictures, but I still don't like beets. My mom used to tell me I'd grow to like them ... and asparagus and brussel sprouts. She was wrong. Ha! Just read the comment from Amy and I guess I'm not particularly interested in growth.

Know what you mean about losing the blogging mojo. It happens to everyone periodically I think. Glad you're back!

  3. Oh I'm going through the same thing. I've got blogger burn out but I keep trying to post once a week or sometimes every one and a half weeks. Love, love quinoa and think it tastes divine and it's so good for you too. I'm a former English major and just let the typos fall off my back because I'm not in school anymore. Nice to see you back.

  4. you'll have to excuse me - having just returned from a memorial for a wonderful friend (and a person who definitely knew how to live life to the fullest), i'm feeling awfully reflective. but in that vein, you're right! you just need to jump in, be who you are, and live your moments (and share them if you see fit).

also, i love quinoa. hope you grow into it.

  9. i'm like you... i sometimes have a bit of a hard time without having a theme or some grand observation for a post. but, i find myself loving reading about bits of other people's days. like this. it's fascinating to me to see what other people are eating. i also am not totally in love with quinoa but we eat a lot of it here. try adding pesto to it. that's my favorite way to eat it!

  11. Happy to be reading your posts again Tara. I love your writing because it just seems to flow from you, your family, your creativity. It doesn't matter whether it's 'about' anything. I love me some beetroot an all. And I sound like a freak, but I love quinoa. My poor husband never complains :-)

  12. I love roasted beets...and quinoa (although we don't eat it much anymore). Have you tried cooking it with some broth instead of just water? (Maybe you already do that.) I find it ups the flavour factor...A LOT. That salad looks delish. xo

  13. I have never had roasted beets, but I bet I'd like them. The only kind I've ever had is pickled beets, which I like a lot! And the only reason I tried them is because of Dwight on The Office. lol
