Feeling a Little Lighter

Quick question:  Is anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stuff around them?

I am.  Everywhere I go in the house, piles of stuff are staring back at me.

Daring me to walk to the window without experiencing stabbing pain in the soles of my feet.

Taunting me and my less than perfect housekeeping skills.

I can't seem to focus.  I feel frazzled and frustrated.  Lately, the only place in the house where I feel calm is here.

Yesterday, enjoying coffee at this table with a good friend, I realized why I like this space so much.  The trees, the sun and the perspective are a given.  It is also the lack of stuff.  A table, couple of chairs and some plants.  That's it.  That is all we need when we are in this space which got me to thinking that there are so many other places in the house where we don't need as much as we have.

So I am setting to work today, on this the last day of the school year.  I won't get it all done today but it's a start.  And when our summer officially begins this afternoon at 2:10, I will feel a little lighter.

  1. Yay...Happy Summer Vacation!!

I can relate about the "piles" of stuff...where does it all come from??? I usually get the "bug" to fix it all when it gets out of control and tidy it all up...that is until it appears again!!

p.s. - avocado smoothie = one small avocado, cup coconut milk, one banana, ice and a tiny bit of agave.

  4. Oh man sister, you are not alone. I so need to take the time to do a de-clutter. I am going to have to do a total re-vamp of the soap room out of necessity. Guess I'll start there. :))

  6. while i don't have any toys underfoot to step on (but one never forgets the pain of a lego block!), i totally share your desire for a cleaner space with less STUFF. perhaps i will attempt a little organizing of my own today.

  7. I totally understand. Since we just moved, and have so much still packed in the garage, I keep going in there and thinking . . . I better get rid of a lot of this stuff, we are living fine without it, and otherwise it with be packed into my house and then clutter will reign. Good luck and I will be doing the same thing soon : )

  8. Yes yes yes! I totally relate to this, and my happy space is also outside and delightfully clutter-free. We just accumlate so much stuff around here. Unneeded stuff. I've been slowly moving things out and it's getting better but then birthdays happen and it looks like Toys R Us threw up in the kids' bedrooms again. ( I blame you, grandparents.)

Much like my life, it's a work in progress.

  10. I have a huge paper pile beside me which has been there for over a week, I could be going through it now while having a coffee but I am just going to ignore it for a little while longer!

  11. I haven't been by in a week or so, busy busy sweeping away the piles and praying for grace as I move things from one side of the apartment to the other. My loving husband doesn't know it yet, but this upcoming weekend is the one where we are going to clean the laundry room really well. I can't do my "job" in there as it is... sigh.

I hope you find some peace soon. Just remember, this time with our littles is so fleeting. Sometimes it's worth the mess.
